Some people like the church more now, sort of, headed by Rev. David Schwambach as of 2016. Preaching has improved but mainly reserved to reading scripture & making comments. In other words, teachers concern themselves with basic things. Reverence and respect while teaching & presenting scripture has declined. One may find the place enjoyable to attend.

My review may sound harsh but other popular "churches" in the area are just as bad or much worse including CFC and Crossroads.

The thrust of the average service, at Bethel, is to end with a salvation prayer to encourage people to go to Heaven or get baptized. Fine but the attenders don't appear to have an understanding of scripture, nor have a broad doctrinal foundation preached to them weekly. There's almost no suggestion to read scripture and zero urgency nor talk about what is going on in the world in a prophetical Biblical way. That is common around the nation and follows the anti-scriptural teaching of wolf in sheep's clothing Rick Warren etc. Few bring their Bibles & fewer read it during the services (bring a flashlight.) The "teachers" work to squeak in a salvation prayer but are not concerned that one must "believe in their heart" as well to be saved. That part is missed or they just don't want to go to the trouble of preaching much. At a large outdoor 2016 event they played "My Sweet Lord" by "hare krishna" loving George Harrison (Someone made a huge mistake? But nobody turned it off)

PREVIOUS UPDATE: The previous head pastor left Bethel with a path of destruction in a few years. Problems he left included cutting off long time missionaries, removal of most of the crosses in the building, debt, wasteful spending involving replacing pews, expensive sound system and the stupid logo that he pushed through. Scripture doesn't say to do those things. There were other terrible issues surrounding him. It's uncertain whether the people that enabled him are still in leadership (likely so) nor whether they'll ever preach strongly from scripture again. They must follow the Bible, chapter and verse, rather than the latest books they read on how to "do church" or follow others.

They are still affiliated with "Allah" loving Freemason Bill Hybels of Willow Creek and Global Leadership (Freemason) Summit, the dangerous Darlene Zschech / Hillsong music as well as ties to Rick Warren / Saddleback. This is disturbing yet most other "churches" are following them, rather than the Bible, as well.

Using KJV quotes is rare, instead they mainly use corrupted versions such as ESV, NIV and others which are translations of "Vatican" picked manuscripts that do not correspond to the majority of manuscripts.
The corrupt Vatican influenced translations, such as ESV, make Jesus sound like He lied to his brothers when they asked Him if He would go up to Jerusalem (John chapter 7:8-10). Jesus had to remain sinless to be a perfect sacrifice for our sins. Interesting that the modern translations want to make Jesus out to be a sinner / liar when they translate from Vatican picked manuscripts a la Westcott and Hort. The Sinaiticus and Vaticanus were written in the 1800's and 1400's respectively. They are far from the oldest and were never the best manuscripts. Christians have been lied to by Seminary & Vatican wolves in sheep's clothing. Stick with the KJV as your Bible.

Take whatever modern Bible and compare Luke 23:42, 1 Cor. 1:18, Mark 10:24, Acts 3:26 to the KJV. Once you figure this out you will want to to demand teachers stop using them. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Teaching from scripture should always be the case, rather than just part of the "show." Few "churches" regard scripture any longer.

  • I have been attending the church for two years now. I love the worship service and the pastoral staff. There is such a sweet Spirit in the church. Pastor Dave is such a gentle and sincere leader. He has shown great live for the church and the city of Evansville.
It's a large church and takes a bit of effort to get to know people but worth the effort for sure.
I know that this church has struggled in the past but it's future looks very promising.
    I recommend your visit soon.

  • This church is fantastic. Once I got the courage to introduce myself, the church quickly became like family. I love it there.
