  • It is an amazing church where you learn not just how to follow Jesus, but how to worship him! We are one big family! It feels like home.

On April 30th I attended the Jamie Grace concert that had two other performers. The faith based show was very nice with a positive message. I have been to a number of churches through the years for special events. On this event I attended alone as my wife did not go. From the moment I walked through the front doors, it seemed like an unwelcoming place. Never before has there not been someone welcoming visitors to the church. The only thing said to me was, twenty dollars. I kind of overlooked this at first, but this seemed to be the norm as time went on. I happened to get an aisle seat on the right side with a good view of the stage. In the row in front of me were two other visitors to the church. At intermission I figured there was a chance that someone may say something. About halfway through intermission someone did come up and stood right in front of me to talk to the person behind me who also had an aisle seat. From their conversation they were both members of the church. They talked for over 5 minutes, as if I was not sitting between them. The couple sitting in front of me left before the show was over and I left about two songs later. First impressions say a lot, they told me not to come back to this church. Five stars for the show, less than one for the church.

The June 2002 Evansville Courier obituary of the founder of Bible Center stated he was for more than 70 years a member of Masonic Lodge. They have a 10-15 foot tall image to him painted in the back. Freemasons consider themselves gods. Beware

This is a semi-large charismatic church. Services usually emphasize a long and loud worship service. One "might" learn how to go to heaven at Bible Center and there's some positive things there but the church suffers from serious flaws. I’ll briefly explain.

While the church name is Bible Center, the services & sermons are filled with pervasive non-Bible talk & banter. The banter and story telling totally interferes with learning from the Bible. Story telling from people’s lives, things that they did last week, last year, 5 to 50 years ago. Story telling which quickly leads or flows into the Bible subject isn't necessary a bad thing, but the fact of the matter is, the Bible requires a pastor to “preach The Word, in season & out of season.” A teacher must be prepared to preach from the Bible. I cannot honestly say the Bible Center Pastors demonstrate that ability.

Instead of preaching from the Bible, they have used other sources with no connection to the Bible. They usually fill time by talking about events which center around the family that founded and pastors the church. They regularly reference the church founder who has been dead since 2002. (Note: I've learned the founder's June 2002 Obituary, in the Evansville Courier, stated he was for more than 70 years a member of Masonic Lodge. Freemasonry is disguised Satanism & Witchcraft and something no Christian should be involved in.)
Some weeks it seems they talk, far more, about non-Biblical things than about Jesus. (2 Timothy 4:3)

Regardless of how much or little of the Bible is preached, they often pray for the sick and have an alter call. That is a good thing which few churches do but it isn’t good that the Bible isn’t preached.

Years ago, an artist designed a large gym sized children’s room containing theme rooms based on the Bible. Someone also built a two story Noah’s Ark with a slide as well as large sculptures of a Whale, Pharaoh and Samson. While a very nice room which could be used to teach the Bible by expert and dedicated teachers, it doesn’t appear this room is used weekly for teaching & training now. Instead, they have kids go into the Samson Cinema theme room and play video's. Comically, or maybe not so comically, the pillars of this cinema are being pushed down by Samson. The irony of this escapes some people. (The children are symbolically in the Philistine temple that God & Samson destroyed along with everyone in it.) Other Sunday school rooms don’t appear to be well used either, although the gym is used during the service for kids (young and old) to play basketball.

Concerning my review, the final straw came when I flipped the TV on Sunday morning where Bible Center has a broadcast. I saw Rick V. telling another restaurant story. (He seemingly has 10,000 of them) After a minute of, unpolished, story telling I turned it off and decided to post my review. I'll never understand why he thinks and others allow him to fill his sermons with restaurant stories and furthermore re-play it on TV. But don't make the mistake critiquing or criticizing or they'll instantly turn on you like a false teacher would turn on you. In my opinion, the elders of the church are complicit and not done their job to guide and remind those that preach here that they are to abide by what the Bible requires them to do or be replaced.

They are BIG on security here, in part for children, but mostly to protect the family that founded the church. Rick V. taught & said to other churches to "protect the pastor."

  • My boyfriend and I love this church! We have been attending the last 3 weeks & every week we love it even more! I was a previous Sunday school teaching in Evansville at another church for two years m, and although it was a wonderful church, I didn't feel as if it was the church for me. I felt like God was calling me somewhere else. In January, I decided to try out Cathedral. I loved it. I went for about two months and then I let my social and work life get the best of me & I eventually quit attending church altogether. However, the past month myself, along with my boyfriend, have fallen in love with The Cathedral. I know this is where God was calling us to go! We can feel the Holy Spirit the moment we begin to worship! Everyone is so welcoming as well! We cannot wait to get more involved! It's already strengthened us as individuals and our relationship so much. We pray every day together and after every service we summarize what we received out of it. This church is truly changing our lives & we are so blessed for Pastor Rick and Pastor James' preachings! The devotion in their voices moves mountains! We will definitely continue to go to The Cathedral! I highly recommend!

  • I love this church. I read couple reviews, specifically the bad ones and I was a little confused. This is a bible centered church. Yes our pastors tell stories from time to time but the Bible is used as well. There is no free masonry I have no idea what that guy was trying to say. I'm part of the worship team here if you think the music is a little loud then I'm sorry but it doesn't mean we are a bad church. We are a living and forgiving church. Our staff is full of true followers of Christ and you can talk with any of them and they will listen to you and care for you. I love my church
